The Rental Intruder is the main antagonist of Fears to Fathom - Woodbury Getaway. He is a middle-aged man with balding white hair and thin stubble impersonating Rick Wilson during Sydney Harper and Michael J. Carter's stay in their rental cabin at 241 Woodbury Blvd.
Plot[]
Fears to Fathom - Woodbury Getaway[]
He first meets the duo as they stumble upon him, already in the cabin. He appears as a kind yet off-putting owner. He makes them visit each room of the cabin, informs them about the supplies and appliances like the water heater, and warns them about a part of the basement that is off limits and locked to visitors. Assuming he is their host/landlord Rick Wilson, the duo comments on the man's weird behavior.
While playing hide and seek, Sydney and Mike stumble upon the intruder a second time as he is in the bathroom again, pretending to be fixing the faucet in the upstairs bathroom with his hammer. The duo starts to have serious concerns and fear about him.
Soon after Sydney dismissed the hiker, noises and screams can be heard, probably from the hiker running away in fear. Right after Sydney texts the real Rick for help, the fake one will come over, probably coming to investigate who disturbed his sleep. After coming in and a brief conversation about what happened, he asks Sydney if she is alone, to which she replies what she is at the moment, but her friends will be back soon, which prompts him to go to the fire place, talking to Sydney about 'Storms like this bring out all kind of folks and not all of them know when to stay away'. As she gets texts from the real Rick she realizes the man in front of her is an imposter, the conversation becomes threatening. The rental intruder notices Sydney texting, talking to her, which eventually leads to Sydney confronting him, resulting in the intruder trying to catch Sydney, but she eventually manages to hide until Mike and Nora arrive, which leads to the intruder fleeing through the backyard eventually.
It turns out that he was a living in the cabin's basement illegally.
Rental intruder's fate afterwards is unclear apart from becoming a wanted criminal. Considering that he had no time to put warm clothes on, he won't likely run far enough.
Personality[]
The rental intruder is mentally unstable and believes the cabin is rightfully his, willing to kill anyone who enter his "home" regardless of their intentions. It's implied that the madman used to work for Rick until the latter fired him for being increasingly irrational. Regardless, he seemed to be manipulative enough to give others, Rick's pet, a false sense of security in his presence with only most cautious and astute able to see his true colors.
