Personality[]
Noah is a young man who, at the time of events of the game, struggled to make amends with his father Walter in the light of his ill-fated relationship with Cara — the same issue which hinted him used to be too trusting to Walter's liking. Yet at the same time he developed intuition and interest in everything hidden as well as analytical side to the boot. Noah is a 28 year old male from the Midwest who was born to an unnamed mother of an unmentioned profession and a realtor named Walter in 1991. His father had almost always friendly relations with his clients.
Relation and breakup with Cara[]
An unspecified time later, Noah met Cara via a dating site. Despite their three-year age gap, with Cara being older than him, Noah did not care and they had a healthy and stable relationship.
However, 2 months into the relationship, Cara began abusing hard drugs like meth and also drank heavy amounts of alcohol. Despite Noah's efforts trying to help her, Cara continued the vices and gaslights him saying that he's trying to change her. This leads to the two breaking the relationship. He soon finds another girlfriend, Evelyn.
Carson House[]
Of the many events in his life that remained fresh, one was an incident that happened to him in 2009. Despite this, the whole situation left him deeply traumatized and hopes that his story will serve as some lesson and a vivid example.
In that year, the then-18-year-old Noah was a high school student who was likely on the verge of graduation from secondary level. On one day, one of his father's old friends and longtime clients, media corporation COO Roy Carson, was leaving for a few days and is in need of a house sitter to watch his residence, with a promise to pay $100 for the job. He met Walter and told him of this scenario, wherein the latter told him of his son. When Walter came home from work, he informed Noah of this part-time job for the weekend.
Accepting the offer[]
Noah accepted the offer as he didn't have much to do this weekend. Besides, he thought he could use this time to get his schoolwork done. And also, Noah was not particularly picky where his pocket money came from. Noah's father drove him to the house that evening.
On the way to Mr. Carson's house, Noah fell asleep in the car and had a strange dream where he found himself in a laundromat, where the main passage to the department was a basement that had an endless hallway filled with washing machines. Without hesitation, Noah goes down to the basement, where his vision becomes blurry and distorted. Walking along the endless hallway, Noah encounters a strange man but did not have time to start a sensible dialogue with him, as the man began to ask him for bleach. Not understanding his request, the man began to lose his temper and scream out for bleach which jolted Noah out of his dream.
Noah wakes up to the sound of his fathers voice who tells Noah that to enter the house, he needs to find spare keys that lie under a fake rock in the backyard. He also asks Noah to lock the doors and not open the door for anyone before driving off into the night. On the territory of the house, Noah is looking for the keys where me meets Roy's dog named Zeke, who reacted quite affectionately to his appearance. Entering the house, Noah realizes that the house was way bigger than his, which he did not notice before heading upstairs. The house has many different rooms, both large and small. One of the doors cannot be opened due to a server bank blocking the entrance. Because of this, Noah has to get used to navigating the house for a while. After getting used to the layout of the house, Noah receives a message from an unfamiliar contact, who turned out to be Mr. Carson. Meanwhile Noah also corresponds with Evelyn Cooper, his girlfriend, whose relationship is shown to us as kind, cute and slightly funny in terms of routine conversations about school and arranging dates. We also find out through correspondence that Evelyn has a pet cat named Ava. The exchange reveals that Noah works on mending his ties with his father because of his ill-fated relationship with Cara who wasn't particularly nice to him and tries not to look stupid. Nevertheless, Evelyn supports his idea and says that the incident with Cara is not his fault and that he does not need to engage in self-flagellation.
Mr. Carson's first request was to get dog food from the basement and feed Zeke. Due to the poor lighting in the basement, Roy recommends Noah to take a flashlight from the storage room to navigate through the dark depths of the basement. Noah easily completes this task, and by that time it is already quite dark outside, so Noah quickly returns to the house. A little time passes, during this time Noah is busy exploring around the house and once again notes on how big it is. Noah begins to think that despite the warm and sweet atmosphere of the house, something is clearly wrong, and it begins to depress him a little. But he shrugs these thoughts aside, because Roy sends him a new message stating that Noah is something of a computer wiz and needs Noah to get rid of a virus on his computer. The entire security system of the house is connected to this computer, so Noah takes up the case responsibly. After reviewing the links and working tabs of the computer, Noah finds in the deleted videos “Guide to Being a Better Person” created by Mr. Carson, but because of strange and frightening glitches remotely. Noah was confused by this video, and it seemed very frightening to him, but despite this, Noah took up the main task. As it turned out a little later, there were 5 Trojans on the computer, which Noah easily eliminated and told Carson about it. Roy replied that it was all possible because of his son, Alec, who often downloads information from unverified sites. Then, Evelyn and Noah correspond about Noah's strange dream, which he saw at the very beginning. Evelyn also notices that this dream reminds her of the TV program "Cooking with Jeffrey" on Channel 10 last night. And he adds that right now he will show a repeat of the program and that Noah should watch it with her, to which he agrees and goes to the living room to watch. While watching, Noah has unpleasant feelings, and the program reminds him of a strange deleted video of Roy. Jeffrey cooks cat food and to be honest, the program itself is more like a psychedelic analog horror than a TV program. But Evelyn notices what is happening in the show funny. But before Noah has time to look at the end, Roy sends him a list of products that he should buy at the nearest convenience store before dark. Roy also notices that he can use his son Alec's bike, which is in the backyard - which Noah actually did. Not to say that Noah rode bicycles well, but he mastered this task and drove to the store.
Grocery shopping[]
By 9:22 p.m., Noah arrives at the store, eventually taking notice on a girl that was leaving the store and boarding a car, quickly driving away. Though the girl was familiar to him, Noah did not focus on it, and continued his task. While collecting the necessary products and simultaneously helping an elderly woman with the selection of her purchases, Noah stumbles upon his friends and classmates Turner and Andy, at a food shelf. They inform him that his ex-girlfriend Cara, stopped by the store before his arrival and bought a large number of cans of alcoholic beverages. They also notice that Cara has changed her image and has become like a Goth. Noah doesn't find it funny, but Turner continues to joke about her appearance and the circumstances. After a while, Noah decides to change the subject and tells them that he is watching Roy Carson's house this weekend. This statement shocks Andy. who reveals that Alec goes to school with his sister, adding of her statements that Alec was a real weirdo, especially since his parents divorced. After a short dialogue, Noah pays for the purchases and returns to the house.
Prelude to disaster[]
Noah returns to the house on Alec's bicycle, which he returns to the original spot outside the garage. Deciding to make some headway on his math homework, Noah returns to Mr. Carson's office, where Andy tells him to read about Mr. Carson's public, ongoing divorce online. There, he finds out that numerous fans of Roy's ex-wife, Allisa Brown, have shown up to the house with confrontational intentions since the publicizing of their split. Soon after, Noah hears a knock on the front door and upon checking the cameras, sees a young man standing outside with a cap and duffle bag awaiting a response. He answers the door and discovers that the man is a pizza delivery driver and, after some brief scepticism, accepts the food.
As Noah settles down and eats the pizza while watching a TV program, a text message from Mr. Carson states that the latter ordered the pizza using online pay as a token of gratitude. Forgetting to respond to Evelyn for the past hour, she wishes Noah a sad goodnight before heading to sleep, which he finally responds to. Noah hears another knock at the door and upon checking the cameras once again, finds a bundle of flowers placed on the doormat. He takes them inside, not thinking much of the matter, and retreats to Mr. Carson's office to finally start on his math homework, something he had been repeatedly distracted from up until this point.
Prowling intruder[]
After being heavily engrossed in schoolwork for a few hours, the power suddenly goes out. As Noah ventures into the deep darkness of the house, he opens his phone and is surprised to see that the unknown sender has been spamming him with mean and aggressive messages in an attempt to gaslight Noah and make him feel bad about leaving Cara for Evelyn. Believing that Cara would never do such a thing, being so horrible and cranky, Noah starts thinking that the recent events are related to Turner who is known for pulling really stupid pranks especially as Noah told him where he's staying tonight being at Roy's residence. Noah continues to navigate through the dark halls of the house and out the backyard, where the circuit breaker is located. Zeke is barking relentlessly outside, but there doesn't seem to be anyone around. As Noah inspects the breaker, he notices that the fuse has been strangely turned off, confused to how this could've happened especially as Zeke started barking in a panic Noah turns the fuse back on which restores power back to the house, but not realizing that someone has gained entry to the residence.
After turning the power back on, Noah goes upstairs to continue his schoolwork. While accessing the camera's he notices that the studio has been messed up and the lights knocked over. Noah has a strange gut feeling about the situation but doesn't want to overthink things and so gets back to his schoolwork but as he begins his work a loud noise emits downstairs. Checking the camera's Noah discovers that the oven in the kitchen has been strangely turned on and cautiously heads downstairs to turn it back off. Creeped out knowing Turner may be the house trying to prank him Noah immediately messages Andy to pass him Turners contact details so he can stop messing with him but Andy informs Noah that Turner is at his place for a sleepover that night and is by his side at this very moment. Noah as a result starts forming new theories that all of these events have been due to his lack of sleep and paranoia and that there's nothing to worry about.
The intruder is revealed[]
As Noah tries to rationlise the situation, he checks the camera's constantly for his peace of mind. To his horror, he notices a slender female intruder in short dress going up the stairs brandishing a kitchen knife who begins periodically checking the rooms exploring for what seems to be looking for Roy to deliver him to mobjustice for the alleged cheating of his ex-wife. The woman begins calling for Noah revealing she knows him personally; she is revealed to be Cara, who had somehow knew of Noah's location. Cara goes on saying how she missed him and wants things to be back to normal and expresses how she feels betrayed after Noah left her for Evelyn.
When Noah explains how it's over between them and that she needs to leave Cara flies into a blind rage banging on the office door demanding Noah to come out so they can fix things. Noah threatens Cara by calling the police but Cara exhibits how she doesn't care and proclaims that she will kill both him and Evelyn if he tries to do so.
Escape[]
A freaked out Noah quickly rushes into the adjacent laundry room and holds his breath until Cara reaches the office. With Cara out of his sight while looking for Noah in the office. the act buys Noah the time and opportunity to flee, which he does; Noah rushes out of the house and down the block. As soon as he leaves Noah contacts his father who calls the police but by the time they arrive, Cara is long gone from the house.
It is revealed that after the breakup, a heartbroken and heavily intoxicated Cara headed down a dangerous path which eventually led to her snapping and attempting to kill Noah at the Carson house. The police visit her residence and find out that she's been heavily under the influence of the meth and alchohol. A review of the camera footage showing how she broke in and picked up a kitchen knife proved incriminating enough for Cara to be sent to prison.
Noah lived to tell the tale and hoped people learn from his story.
