Plot
December 8, 2007
The game begins with Sydney working overtime at her cubicle in a consulting firm during which she takes her time drinking some coffee. Afterwards, she goes to the restroom to relieve herself. There, she is startled by the janitor who promptly apologizes, mistaking the restroom being empty. Afterwards, she returns to her cubicle (during this time, she may annoy the janitor by tossing coffee cups around depending on the player).
Sydney continues her work when Mike calls her through the phone, asking her to rent a cabin which is under $100 to get around budgetary issues of their friend Nora. She promptly consults with RentACabin.com through her computer and book Private Cabin at Woodbury, Vermont whose price being $99 a night — the cheapest cabin they asked. The reason she agrees to join Mike and Nora is to have some well-deserved healing due to stressful job at consulting firm.
December 10, 2007
Two days later, she exits the parking lot of her apartment building, taking her time talking with her neighbor Gael. Sydney has contacted Rick, who in charge of the cabin they about to check in at 3:00 PM that day and even provided them the code for its lockbox (5176). She also reviewed her messages with Mike who rightfully pointed out the toll of her current occupation hence among reasons she needed some healing at the cabin in the first place. There, she meets Mike and given options in the approach of hugging him. Regardless, the two head for their destination.
On their way to Woodbury, Sydney and Mike bring up the time they and Nora used to spend their time together in their college years. She received a message from Rick who not too surprised by her and her friends being late but nonetheless warns them to be careful. Because of distracted by the sight of abandoned school bus, they nearly hit a deer which hooves past the road. Upon this incident, Mike comments about the possibility of it being a message from the universe according to Native American lore.
Thanks to GPS system, Mike successfully pinpoints the location of Moe's Pizza where they decide to eat at before moving on. Depending on the player, Sydney can take her time talking to customers to hear how much they enjoy their meal before ordering hers. As she and Mike wait for their food, they receive a voice message from Nora who apologizes that she'll be late due to last minute work. It is when they enjoy their food a hike comes up to ask the two to lend him a ride. Regardless of the player's response, Mike refuses due to finding him rather too suspicious to his liking. Sure enough, the disgruntled hiker ominously warns them that bad things happen to those who are unkind to others. After finishing their food, the two continue their trip.
Arriving at the cabin rental, Sydney uses the code Rick gave to them to access the key. She places the groceries to the kitchen on Mike's behalf and proceeds to explore the cabin. So far things go smoothly for the to and they even encounter a middle-aged man who is supposed to be Rick himself who takes them around the cabin. Despite her misgivings (something in the middle-aged man made her uncomfortable, which didn't help by him jumpscaring her earlier), Sydney puts it aside to engage some activities with Mike now that they fully accustomed there (fishing, eating cooked carp, playing Ouija board, playing tower stack, hide and seek, and small pranks). They also learn But things don't quite like what it appear to be. Sydney and Mike catch "Rick" checking the faucet with a hammer on his hands. Mike and "Rick" argue because the latter picks a wrong hour for such endeavor and the former asks the latter to leave as he should be able to resume the endeavor on the next day. Sydney and Mike agree that something is amiss about their host but, at the time they assume him to be harmless. As they share a bed, Mike brings up the awkward moment between them back at Oregon and it's clear that he wants to be more than friends with Sydney. However, the moment is soon interrupted by Nora who calls them for help as the tires of her car got blown in the middle of her trip, prompting Mike to prepare to help their friend but not before asking Sydney to stay for the sake of her well-being. So, she has no choice but to rest while waiting for them.
December 11, 2007
Later on, the hiker from Moe's Pizza shows up by the doorstep, barely concealing his malicious intents. Sydney refuses to let him enter and returns to her bed as soon as he left. She barely dozes off when a commotion and a scream wake her up, prompting her to contact Rick for help. "Rick" appears and comforts Sydney, oddly still carrying the hammer before warming himself with the fireplace.
However, the real danger in the rental cabin is none other than "Rick" himself. Shortly after receiving a message from the real Rick that he hasn't occupied the cabin she and Mike currently staying at for weeks, Sydney confronts the imposter, leading to a heated argument in which the latter snaps. With him breaking the front door and blocking the back door with the dining table and living room with a sofa, Sydney has no choice but to hide in the ensuing sick cat-and-mouse. Eluding the intruder beneath the stairs while remaining quiet, Sydney sneaks upstairs when Nora suddenly calls her through the phone, alarming him. She is forced to hid in her bedroom closet to elude him once again. The intruder notices Mike and Nora's arrival and set out to see whether he can butcher them too only to continue the pursuit upon hearing Sydney's phone ringing again. Successfully hiding in attic, Sydney texts both real Rick and her friends for help before attempting to sneak past him. Fortunately, the intruder changes his mind and flees through the back door, allowing her to reunite Mike and Nora who manage to break through the door downstairs.
In the aftermath of the incident, Sydney believes the intruder pretended to be Rick and stayed there in order to rob her and her friends. However, the police who called into the scene suggest the intruder has more sinister agenda and the real Rick apparently knows his imposter more than he admit. Nevertheless, he gives Sydney and co. full refund as compensation.

While driving to Woodbury, if you decide just to turn back, the game will end, awarding you with the secret ending.

Mike wears a beige sweater similar to Stu Macher in the final act and comes off as weird and creepy. That said, his attitude proved to be misleading because the real villain being Rick's imposter all along.
